AN EXPLORER’S GUIDE
The Best of The Hudson Valley & Catskill Mountains
by Joanne Michaels & Mary Margaret Barile
Set on an acre of lawn and gardens above a meadow where Cranse creek flows into the Green River, this 1830 Federal house is a beautiful place for a relaxing weekend. The Green River is a good spot to fish or cool off in summer. Tanglewood, in the Berkshires, is just 20 minutes away. A full breakfast is elegantly served in the dining room or on the screened porch. The lemon-ricotta pancakes and honey-spice French toast are house specialties.
AMERICA’S WONDERFUL LITTLE HOTELS AND INNS
by Sandra W. Soule
The Inn at Green River is a restored 19th century farmhouse, set in a quiet spot above a meadow. Once a parsonage and then an inn of dubious distinction during Prohibition, the building was purchased in 1988 by Deborah Bowen. Breakfast is served on the screened porch or in the candlelit dining room, and might include fresh-squeezed orange juice, home-baked scones, and lemon ricotta pancakes, or perhaps baked apples, omelets and tomato, basil, and ham and hot muffins.
“Charming, simply decorated home with handsome antique beds, Oriental rugs, and old family photographs. Deborah tries to make you comfortable in every way.” (Heidi and Rob Lennick)
“The delicious breakfast is served on beautiful china and monogrammed sterling. Entrees include lemon ricotta pancakes and eggs Florentine, served with fresh fruit and juice, and home-baked muffins. The Van Buren Room has huge arched windows overlooking the meadow and a four-poster queen-size bed, plus soft terry robes.” (Carol and Allen Weintraub) “Filled with old family furnishings, Deborah has created a welcoming, restful, and comfortable inn. She is warm, helpful and an inspired cool.” (Judith & Victor Himber, also Barbara & Michael Kalish)
