It has been a hot spring and summer here in the Hudson Valley, so now I have an excuse to visit the new Village Scoop on Route 23 in the center of Hillsdale…often!

As their web site says, “Get the scoop on the Village Scoop”. This great little shop offers excellent ice cream and sorbets by Jane’s Ice Cream of Kingston, NY, in many forms –  a dish, a cone, a sundae, a milkshake, a float, a banana split, or any concoction you choose to dream up! I even saw pink cotton candy as a topping, along with the usual chocolate jimmies (that’s what we call sprinkles in New England!) and colored sprinkles and nuts, etc.

You enter the small red building and your eye is delighted at every turn:

I love the painting of the 2 cows over the window in the photo above, and the clever lamps made from pails, shown in this photo of the two talented owners who created this imaginative shop, Kevin Draves and Ken Davis. Love their aprons too. I wonder if they are for sale at their gift shop, Passiflora, next door?

There is a small deck overlooking a garden area at the back. Stools face the front window, and small cafe tables and chairs are set up on the west side of the Scoop.

The flavors of ice cream offered will be rotated frequently – Jane’s makes over 70 flavors. Another reason besides the warm weather to visit frequently.

The shop opens early, at 7 am, offering Sweet Sam’s baked goods, and 11 Roasters coffee. The summer hours until Labor Day: open 7 days a week, from 7 am to 8 pm, and until 10 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Please tell them Deborah sent you!
