Continuing my tour of favorite Hillsdale antique shops, I visited the Hillsdale General Store on Route 23 in the center of the hamlet. The store, which opened last year after a lengthy renovation of the c. 1855 former general store, has recently expanded, adding three design shops on the second floor.
HGS owner Matthew White, of New York design firm White Webb, has opened his shop, White Webb Finds,
displaying a wonderful eclectic mix of antiques, art and furnishings.
Some of the pieces he designed and had made by local craftsmen, such as
the unique day bed in front of the window.
I was particularly taken with the mirrors and wall brackets from his witty Intaglio collection. These pieces are silk-screened with greatly enlarged copies of antique engravings.
Joseph Stabilito Vintage Collectibles offers a nicely edited collection, including stone turned garden ornaments, oil paintings, chests and chairs. I particularly liked a lovely small mirror in a frame covered in vintage buttons. And that painting would look great at the Inn!
The third shop is Boxwood Linen featuring wonderful table linens, aprons, quilts, pillows and more, all hand made locally by Franca Fusco in Ghent, NY. I think I need a linen bistro apron to wear when serving guests at the Inn at Green River, don’t you?
So next time you are perusing the vintage kitchen items on the ground floor of the General Store, be sure to head up the stairs…you are sure to find a little treasure that needs a home in your home.
