The FilmColumbia film festival takes place each October in Chatham, New York. Now in its 11th year, the 5 day festival will screen more than 35 films, including several world premiers, attended by over 6,000 people. Part of the fun is the chance to meet filmmakers, actors, producers and directors at the panel discussions, and question and answer sessions following screenings. Some of the movies have local connections. For example, Hudson, NY filmmakers Mariana Hellmund and Isabel Barton are holding the premier of their movie “The Aspern Papers” based on the Henry James story. Most of the films are screened at the Crandell Theatre, located at 46-48 Main Street in Chatham. This theater is the county’s oldest and largest theater, and looks much the same as it did in 1926 when built as a vaudeville house.
