View other rooms: The Thorsden Room
This large corner room in the new west wing has a fireplace and five toile-draped windows with views of the hillside garden and the former church next door. It is named after the madam, "Ma" Thorsden, who ran the inn as a bordello in the 1930's and '40's, despite its location next to the church, and history as a one-time parsonage!
Above the king bed is a fabulous unfinished hooked rug by well known rug designer, Pearl McGown. The design is from the 1950's. Deborah considers it folk art! The custom made red armoir meant to invoke a Hudson River Valley Dutch "kass" provides closet space and holds the flat screen cable TV. In the bathroom, a wonderful floral tole chandelier hangs above the large jacuzzi-style tub with shower. The decor is aptly described in America's Wonderful Little Hotels and Inns as an "eclectic mix ... totally charming and mercifully devoid of country kitsch."
